No-Logs Policies Explained: What Data Is Retained?
Understand the difference between browsing activity logs and account service data, and learn what a no-logs policy does and does not cover.
“No logs” is a concept often encountered when understanding VPN privacy. Determining how a service handles data requires understanding both what it doesn't log and why some information is still required for account, payment and support processes.
The no-log policy focuses on VPN activity records; account and payment and other service data need to be read in conjunction with the privacy policy.
01What does a no-logs policy protect?
VPN activity logs may link online behavior to specific users. ZoogVPN’s no-log policy is that it does not collect or save users’ online activities, visited websites and applications, timestamps, user IP addresses, and login/exit session records.
No logging focuses on the processing of activity records by the server, and encryption focuses on data transmission in the connection. The two are used together to reduce transmission exposure and activity record retention respectively.
02Scope of processing of service data
| Information type | Processing methods and purposes |
|---|---|
| VPN Internet activity | The content of visited websites, applications and activities is not collected or saved. |
| IP, timestamps and sessions | User IPs, activity timestamps, and login/exit session logs are not retained. |
| Used for account, subscription notification, support and service communication. Email information is not sold. | |
| Aggregated transfer volume | Records aggregate upload/download totals for operational purposes and does not include traffic content or destination addresses. |
| payment processing | The payment processor may obtain email information required to complete the transaction. |
| Websites and free apps | The website may use necessary cookies and permissioned basic analytics; the free Android app may contain AdMob ads. |
03Account information and browsing history are handled separately
The main body of service operation is located in Greece. Registering and managing an account requires an email address and password; using a valid email address will help you receive account, subscription and support information. The presence of account information does not mean that VPN browsing history is saved.
Personal data is retained for as long as necessary to provide services, handle disputes and fulfill related obligations. Users may request access, correction, deletion or transfer of personal data in accordance with the applicable rules, as well as requests for restriction of processing or withdrawal of consent.
04How do I manage my privacy settings?
The no-logs promise does not equate to the website being unable to identify logged-in users. Information you actively submit to the website, browser cookies and account identities are still managed separately.
- Use separate and strong account passwords to avoid sharing them with other websites.
- Distinguish between VPN connections, browser cookies, and logged-in website accounts.
- Use ad blocking to reduce some tracking requests, but do not treat it as erasing all identifying information.
- When account data needs to be processed, specify the specific need for access, correction or deletion in the account support request.
05FAQ
Do I log the websites and apps I visit?
ZoogVPN’s no-logs policy specifically does not collect or retain such VPN usage activity information.
Why is the transmission volume still counted?
Aggregated upload and download volumes are used to operate services and do not include specific traffic content or access destination addresses.
Are website cookies part of a VPN activity log?
The two are different. Site session and permitted underlying analytics cover the site itself, and the VPN no-logs policy covers logging of VPN activity.
