For restricted networks
Provides protocol options to try when regular VPN connections are disrupted.
ZOOGVPN · SHADOW PROTOCOL
The Shadow protocol combines traffic obfuscation with a VPN to provide an alternative to networks with limited regular connections.
Learn about this feature
Provides protocol options to try when regular VPN connections are disrupted.
Adjust traffic characteristics through confusion technology to help connections adapt to different network environments.
When the service interface cannot be resolved, manual API address resolution configuration can be used to help the application connect.
Understand the functions clearly
Some networks will identify and restrict connections based on the characteristics of VPN traffic, so regular protocols may not be able to establish stable channels. Shadow targets this type of environment and combines obfuscated proxy technology with VPN to adjust identifiable traffic characteristics.
The purpose of obfuscation is to make the connection easier to adapt to restricted networks, and encryption to protect the data being transmitted through the tunnel. They solve problems in different aspects.
Shadow uses a combination of proxies, encryption, and traffic obfuscation to make VPN traffic look more like regular encrypted web traffic. After selecting a client and connection option that supports the feature, the application is responsible for establishing the corresponding channel.
Actual connectivity will still vary based on network, server, and application versions. A successful connection does not mean that all areas and services will be accessible at all times.
Region names are used to describe usage scenarios and do not represent real-time availability testing. After connecting, you should actually check the services you need to access.
| scene | Things to try |
|---|---|
| Regular VPN protocols restricted | Select Shadow in the app and try to connect again. |
| Changing networks while traveling | Check the connection status separately in hotels, mobile networks and other environments. |
| Restricted networks such as China, Russia, and Iran | Try protocols and locations based on the options available to your current network and application. |
| Türkiye, UAE, Qatar and other regions | Check access to commonly used services based on actual connections. |
Sometimes it's not just VPN traffic that's restricted, but the addresses used by apps to log in or get service information may not resolve properly. Manual API address resolution is used to help applications find the corresponding service entrance, and is not the same setting as selecting a VPN exit server.
The effective resolution address may be updated. This page does not provide fixed IP to avoid expired addresses affecting the connection.
Get started
Check the protocol options provided by the current application before trying to connect.
Use the official app for your platform and check the current version notes.
Select Shadow in the application settings that support this feature and follow the prompts to complete the connection.
Try to access the required service. If you still cannot connect, you can describe the network situation to official support.
The connection effect is related to the network, device and application version. It is recommended to refer to the actual connection status.
You can check to see if the app offers the Shadow option when regular protocols cannot establish a connection or are subject to network restrictions.
Not guaranteed. Network restrictions may vary, and actual results may be affected by device and application version.
Start by updating the ZoogVPN app and look for Shadow in the connection or protocol settings. Options may vary between platforms; instructions for manual API address resolution are also provided on this page.
Encryption protects transmitted content, and Shadow also combines obfuscation technology to adjust traffic characteristics to adapt to partially restricted networks.
no. It helps the application access the service interface and is not equivalent to the VPN exit location you choose.
Can't. A valid address provided by service support should be used, otherwise the application may not be able to access the service correctly.
