ZOOGVPN · KILL SWITCH
A Kill Switch suspends network access when the VPN connection is unexpectedly interrupted, reducing the risk of traffic automatically being redirected back to the regular network.
Learn about this feature
The application monitors whether the VPN connection is maintained and promptly responds to unexpected interruptions.
Prevents traffic from continuing to use paths not protected by this VPN when the connection is lost.
Continue using the network after restoring your VPN connection, reducing the burden of repeated manual checks.
Understand the functions clearly
VPNs can be interrupted unexpectedly due to network fluctuations, device hibernation, server switching, or other network software interference. A Kill Switch keeps an eye on the connection status and prevents the device from continuing along its normal path to the Internet when interrupted.
When the VPN connection is restored, network access is restored. This mechanism is used to shorten the exposure window in the event of an unexpected disconnection without establishing another VPN connection.
| connection status | The function of the Kill Switch |
|---|---|
| VPN normal connection | Traffic flows according to the VPN connection settings. |
| VPN unexpectedly disconnected | Pause access to the corresponding network to avoid automatically switching to a regular connection. |
| VPN reconnect | Restore network access via VPN. |
| Manually adjust protection settings | Regular network access may be allowed after closing, so you should confirm your usage needs first. |
ZoogVPN offers Kill Switch support in Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS apps. Go to the app settings to find the Kill Switch or Kill Switch; the name and network permission prompt may differ depending on the system version.
If the current client does not display this option, first check for application updates and platform instructions. Don’t automatically equate browser extensions with system-wide Kill Switches that cover the entire device.
Check to see if you've disconnected from the VPN first: the Kill Switch may be properly blocking regular connections. Try reconnecting, switching available servers or protocols if necessary.
If you need to temporarily turn off protection to restore the regular network, you should first suspend applications and transmissions that you do not want to use the regular network. After you restore your VPN, re-enable protection settings that work for you.
