Cleaner Browsing: How to Use Ad Blocking
Learn how ad and tracker filtering works, how to turn it on, and what to check when a website does not load or display as expected.
Additional requests on the web page may come from ads, tracking resources, or may be part of normal content. Once you understand how ad blocking works, you'll be able to more accurately determine the effectiveness of your filtering and troubleshoot when a site is showing incomplete results.
Ad blocking effectiveness depends on rule coverage and how the site distributes content. When encountering page abnormalities, you can temporarily turn off filtering for comparison and checking.
01How does ad blocking work?
Ad blocking uses filtering rules to identify some ads, tracking and harmful content requests and reduce the loading of these resources. It works on requests within the connection and does not require you to close ad elements on the web page one by one.
Reducing extra requests may save traffic and shorten the load time of some pages. Actual performance depends on page structure, ad sources, and rule coverage, and not every site will see the same changes.
02What content can be filtered?
Ad blocking can provide a cleaner experience for reading, socializing, entertainment, and multi-device browsing, but it does not guarantee the elimination of all ads, nor does it replace the judgment of downloaded files and websites.
| Content type | Usage effect |
|---|---|
| Display ads vs. pop-ups | Ad requests covered by rules can be filtered to reduce common browsing disruptions. |
| Tracking requests | Reduce the loading of some third-party tracking resources. |
| known harmful content | Provides additional filtering for malicious domain names or risky requests covered by rules. |
| Video and Audio Advertising | Some services distribute advertisements together with content and may not be able to completely block them. |
03Turn on, turn off and recheck
Ad blocking works when the VPN connection is active. The entry may be different in different client versions, and the actual switches in the account console and application settings determine the current configuration.
- Log in to the ZoogVPN account console and open the function menu on the left.
- Find Ad Blocker and open ad blocking settings.
- Connect to ZoogVPN in the device app and confirm that the VPN is connected.
- Refresh the web page or reopen the app to check the filtering effect.
- If adjustments are needed, return to Ad Blocker, close or reopen it, and recheck the connection.
04What should I do when website content loads abnormally?
First refresh the page and confirm that the VPN is connected. If the page still lacks images, players or login content, you can temporarily turn off ad blocking to check whether it is related to filtering rules.
If ads are still showing, first make sure the settings are turned on and reconnect. For ads delivered with video content, repeated refreshes may not change the filtering results.
05FAQ
Will ad blocking affect page loading?
Filtering advertising resources may reduce loading content; if some normal resources are also filtered, the page may be displayed incompletely. You can temporarily turn off ad blocking for comparison purposes.
Can it be used on mobile phones, computers or TVs?
It works with ZoogVPN connection. First manage the settings in the account, and then establish a VPN connection on the corresponding device; the application settings entrance may be different on each platform.
Will filtering continue after turning off VPN?
This feature relies on a valid ZoogVPN connection. After a disconnect, traffic does not continue through the same VPN filtering path.
